GEBA at the June 2007 Egyptian Event – a GEBA-sponsored camel presentation at the Opening Ceremonies:
“For horse lovers nothing gets one's adrenaline pumping any faster than the thoughts of the championships - the ‘big night’ and the chance for top honors. This year however at the 2007 Egyptian Event, attendees had the opportunity to experience another kind of rush prior to the championship classes. Through the veil of intrigue and mystery created by harmonious music and native Arab tongue, the gates opened to reveal not the present, but the past. Attendees were vicariously transported to the desert to watch Bedouins leading Salukis, genetically proven to be the oldest of dogs that have lived with man for thousands of generations. These magnificent hounds, blessed with the speed of the cheetah and the noble carriage of the Arabian horse, were highly valued as a gift from Allah. Therefore, they were never sold, but only given as gifts of great esteem by Egyptian Pharaohs and the rulers of the desert. Next came the falcon - independent, free spirited, wild in flight, ruthless in its search for the quarry. The Bedu used the falcon in the hunt not for sport but to survive. The falcon often would hunt to feed its master and itself and the Salukis. Next came the camels, the ship of the desert, adorned in native garb. The camel, bred for stamina, strength, intelligence and character, was an integral part of the Bedu life and enabled them to survive in the harsh desert through its perseverance, endurance and patient forbearance. And lastly, the appearance of the mighty Arabian horse, embodying swiftness, beauty, grace, stamina and courage, and once again reminding the audience why these desert animals have captured so much of our present day lives. This special Opening Ceremony was made possible in part through the generous support of the Georgia Egyptian Breeders’ Alliance (GEBA). The Pyramid Society would like to publicly thank all of the members of GEBA for their sponsorship of the camels for this memorable and meaningful opening ceremony.” (Text by The Pyramid Society; Photos by Richard T. GEBA-sponsored Egyptian May Day Hosted by Sun Valley Arabians:
On Saturday, May 19, 2007 Arabian breeders and enthusiasts gathered for food, fun, and informative lectures on Arabian horses at Sun Valley Arabians. A beautiful sunny day started with a musical liberty presentation, followed by an individual stallion showcase of stallions. During lunch, Julie Nestor of Night Diamond Arabians, gave a well-received lecture on "Clinical Foaling Signs of the Pregnant Mare,". The day concluded with a native costume demonstration with Sun Valley's senior stallion, "Egypt," ridden by Ginger Anderson, and an interesting talk, "History of the Arabian Horse,” by Bob Loovis, The Pyramid Society Region 12 Representative.
